Guests: John S. Ayers, Executive Director, Cowen Institute for Public Education Initiatives, Makiyah Moody, Director, Governance Initiatives & Sarah Vandergriff, Legal Director, LAPCS
To create the right gumbo, we all know that it starts with getting the roux right. The roux essentially holds together the recipe and creates the foundation for a magnificent culinary experience. Having a strong board is akin to having a strong roux. The board is responsible for the overall performance of the school and ensuring the promises articulated in the charter are fulfilled. So, what makes a strong ‘roux’ for your board? It begins with expertise, dedicated individuals, and beaucoup guidance from Chapter 21 of Bulletin 126.
When & Where
Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools
The mission of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools is to support, promote, and advocate for the Louisiana charter school movement, increasing student access to high quality public schools statewide.
The LAPCS is the only statewide entity dedicated to advocating for charter schools at both the state and local levels. The LAPCS provides information to legislators, district officials, and policymakers about the issues that are important to charter schools and organizes the charter school community to support legislation that will give charter schools a fair opportunity to successfully educate the children of Louisiana.
